Aloha….I finally got to wear my new dress! This is a Rocket Betty design made from vintage Alfred Shaheen hand printed fabric panels. The challenge was fitting the curves without impacting the printed design. I couldn’t be happier with the results. Now, I just need to find more dead stock Shaheen fabric!

Many of you know that I love (LOVE) vintage Hawaiian dresses. The colors, prints, & textures make a dreary day (like today) practically disappear. Recently I purchased this vintage muu muu online. While the colors and print are phenomenal, the style is well…..not exactly flattering.

So I busted out my trusty seam ripper, tore that bad girl up and started in on the redesign. The great thing about a muu muu is that they are made of a lot of fabric. This one was an XS but I still had enough fabric to make this. I think you will agree that it’s much cuter than the original. It also happens to be much more my style.
Moral of the story…..If you see a muu muu (especially a vintage one) with a gorgeous print for a good price - buy it and redo it. You will be happy you did.

The Young Advocates of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County and members of the Historic Glenwood Neighborhood Association are hosting the Triangle’s premier event benefiting The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County. The 10th annual Appetite 4 Art event will take place on Thursday April 11, 2013 from 7 until 11 p.m. at Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh.
Guests are invited to enjoy food and wine from premier local restaurants while bidding on donated art in the form of paintings, sculpture and fashion from renowned artists and designers, and a variety of other items from local businesses.
Plus, this year the gala will host a mini fashion showcase & pop-up fashion boutique featuring stunning designs from the following designers.
Appetite 4 Art engages Triangle residents in an evening of fun, food and art, while supporting an organization that impacts more than 4,500 children in Wake County. This event brings together young professionals, art lovers, business and community leaders to enjoy an upscale event, minus the black-tie! Purchase tickets here.
